Massage: Massage Therapy helps relaxation, releasing stress and tension in our bodies. Too much unresolved stress in our lives can cause constant muscular tension. This tension or tightness reduces the flow of blood and oxygen to the muscles and organs and also restricts nerve & lymph supply. Tension creates a tendency for a build up of toxins in the body, and reduces the flow of the more subtle energy or life force (Prana or Chi). Tension can lead to symptomatic feelings of fatigue, heaviness, aches and pains, tightness of muscles and stiffness. Muscular stress can increase the likelihood of strains and injuries. Muscular stress also distorts the skeletal structure which further compounds existing problems and creates new ones.

Remedial Massage
|
Remedial Massage is a treatment modality that manipulates the soft tissues of the body including movement for a specific therapeutic effect, rather than a general therapeutic effect. It uses relevant techniques, lubricants and movements according to the client’s needs and response.
This leads to the healing process, which begins at the cellular level aiding soft tissues in repairing, restoring functional integrity and adapting back to health. Remedial massage can assist the body in its own healing processes, where disease or injury has occurred in muscles, connective tissues, bones, joints and internal organs. Massage can also assist healing through its effect on the psychological condition of the patient, increasing a sense of confidence, well-being and relaxation. |

Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Massage
|
An exquisite form of healing that nurtures your entire being. It imparts profound relaxation and opens you up to feelings of love, joy and peace.
The practitioner uses their hands and forearms in long forward strokes, moving around the table in a graceful dance, giving the massage a sense of continuous flow and harmony. It is a special and sacred experience, and leaves you thoroughly energised, with a deep sense of fulfillment, vitality and inspiration. Lomi Lomi (the Hawaiian word for Massage) is an ancient healing art of working body and mind to prevent and cure illness. As a massage, Lomi Lomi is nurturing and soothing, continuous and rhythmic, lulling you into a sense of peaceful calm, and is as much a massaging of the body as the mind. Lomi Lomi is for full body healing and recognises that every pain and emotion,in fact all of our experiences are retained in our body’s tissue, or if you like, our cellular memory. Lomi Lomi takes relaxation into another realm, beyond relaxation of muscle tissue to relaxation of thought and spiritual calm. |
Hot Stone Massage
|
A hot stone massage uses heated stones to massage the body. The hardness of the stones allows the therapist to address specific problem areas with more detailed work or deeper pressure. Basalt stones of various sizes, shapes and weights are used throughout and heated in water.
While these layout stones are delivering concentrated centres of heat, the therapist is simultaneously massaging the client with oiled, heated stones held in the palm of the hand with firm strokes along the muscles of the legs, arms, and torso areas. It is not simply the "gliding" of heated stones lightly upon the surface of the skin, but rather the stones are used as tools to deliver effective tissue and muscle massage at a pressure level comfortable to the client. The client can request light, medium or deep pressure, which is the beauty of the hot stone massage technique. |
Indian Head Massage
|
The aim of indian head massage is to release the stress that has accumulated in the tissues, muscles and joints of the head, face, neck and shoulders.
The therapist uses a range of different movements including application of deep kneading and compression movements over the neck, shoulder and scalp areas. In addition, the therapist will also gently stimulate and stroke pressure points on the face. Indian Head massage is especially good for relieving stress, tension, fatigue, insomnia, headaches, migraine and sinusitis. Clients report that the experience is deeply calming and relaxing, leaving them feeling energised and revitalised and better able to concentrate. |
Pregnancy Massage
|
Pregnancy massage has been found to reduce stress, decrease swelling in the arms and legs, and relieve aches and pains in muscles and joints. It's a popular complementary therapy during pregnancy for back pain, when choices for pain relief, such as medication, are often limited.
Not only can massage be physically beneficial, but the human touch can be comforting and provide emotional support during pregnancy. |
Relaxation / Swedish Massage
|
The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Some other benefits include shortening recovery time from muscular strain, increased circulation without increased heart load, stretching of ligaments and tendons, skin stimulation and soothing of the nervous system.
Swedish massage feels good, is relaxing and invigorating. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested as part of a regular program for stress management. An optional extra for an additional $10 is a lovely Indian Head massage which is great to include for total body relaxation. |
Trigger Point Therapy
|
Trigger points are located in a taut band of muscles fibres. The trigger point is the most tender point in the band. A trigger point is a hype-irritable spot that is painful. It is called a trigger point because it "triggers" a painful response. It is more than a tender nodule. It affects not only the muscle where the trigger point is located, but also causes "referred pain" in tissues supplied by nerves. The therapist will locate and deactivate them using finger pressure. This therapy is part of the Deep Tissue Massage offered at the Centre.
