Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into defined points on the body. Needles are inserted until you experience a 'de Qi' sensation. This is usually described as a dull, heavy feeling, which can be local or move to another area of the body. Needle insertion is usually painless, however some people can be more sensitive to the Qi sensation than others. Stimulation of these points encourages a healthy flow of Qi or energy through the body and is a means of sending messages to the body to remind it that it needs to restore itself. Acupuncture works on a system of channels in our body known as meridians, the meridians form a complex network of channels which connect the whole body together and throw which our energy flows.
